Leslie Smith, MA

Resident in Counseling

My Approach

I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Southern New Hampshire University. Some areas of experience include working in a private practice, as well as with a community service board working with adolescents in crisis. I am currently a Resident in Counseling and under supervision. I approach counseling with a multi-theoretical approach with person-centered counseling as the focus. This allows for a very in-depth and interpersonal experience. Other approaches include Emotion-Focused therapy (EFT), Relational-Cultural Therapy, Adlerian Therapy, Acceptance-Commitment Therapy (ACT), Symbolic-Experiential Family Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). Additionally, I am EMDR, (Emdria), and EFT (ICEEFT) trained.

My areas of focus

I work with adults, adolescents, children, and couples who have struggled with co-dependency, ADHD, depression, anxiety, work-life balance, trauma, caregivers of and those on the autism spectrum, OCD, and first responders. I provide EMDR for children who have experienced trauma or are having difficulty or no success with traditional talk therapy methods. As a military spouse of 12 years, I also work with military and their family members.

My Mission

I am someone who will go at your pace, show compassion, but still be forthcoming during sessions to gently challenge negative thoughts and behaviors. I attune with my clients and together we dive into a uniquely cultivated healing journey. I help my clients reach self-actualization and achieve empowerment to graduate therapy and live with a renewed sense of self.

You don’t have to do this alone. Let’s do this together.
